Ashok K Patel BDS, MDS, DMD

Dr. Ashok K Patel has been associated with the field of dentistry since 1976. He joined the Government Dental College and Hospital, Ahmedabad, India in June, 1976 and graduated with a BDS degree in May, 1980. Subsequently he joined the Department of Periodontology as a post graduate student and completed the program in December 1982 with a MDS degree from Gujarat University, Ahmedabad, India. In 1982, he submitted a landmark thesis to Gujarat University titled "Epidemiology of Dental Diseases in Handicapped People - Survey and Clinical Trial". During 1983-1984, he had served at the Civil Hospital, Surat, India as a resident doctor in the department of dentistry that admitted patients with severe dental infections, fractured jaws and other problems that required close monitoring.

After immigrating to USA, Dr. Patel joined Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, Boston as an international student and earned a DMD degree in February 1988. Later that year he joined the Implantology training program at Harvard School of Dental Medicine, Boston and completed it in December, 1989. Since then he has been involved in surgical and restorative phases of Implant Dentistry. He also completed a certificate course in straight wire orthodontics from the Progressive Orthodontic Institute, California in 1990.

He has maintained a full time private practice in Waltham, MA since January, 1989. During 1995 – 1996, Dr. Patel associated with Dr. Hilt Tatum Jr., a pioneer in Implant Dentistry. He visited Dr. Tatum’s Implant Reconstructive Center in St. Petersburg, Florida several times and familiarized himself with various surgical techniques originally developed by Dr. Tatum. They included sinus graft surgery, bone expansion and simultaneous implant placement, Ramus frame implant surgery, soft tissue reconstruction and bone augmentation using different graft materials.

Professionally, Dr. Patel is active in several organizations. He is the Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), Fellow and Diplomat of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI) and Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID). Dr. Patel is one of the few board certified members and a Diplomat of the American Board of oral Implantology and Implant Dentistry. He is also an honor member of implant organizations in several different countries. He has lectured extensively at major conferences in Lithuania, Russia, Czech Republic, Singapore, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Pakistan, India, Argentina and Costa Rica. He has also given many surgical demonstrations of Periodontal and Implantology related procedures in numerous cities of India, Korea and Costa Rica.

Dr. Patel strives for excellence in dentistry and believes in sharing the knowledge with other professional colleagues. With this goal he established the Boston Institute of Dental Implantology and Bone Augmentation in 1997. He has offered courses to many dentists from foreign countries out of his Waltham practice. In 2001, he started the Nashua Implant Reconstructive Center in Nashua, New Hampshire. Courses and training programs will be offered to general dentists on a regular basis.
