Why do I need a bridge?

Your appearance and proper functioning of your mouth are all important reasons for wearing a bridge. It replaces missing teeth, and supports your facial muscles, lips, and cheeks. It prevents your teeth from shifting and causing bite, jaw and gum problems.

Why do I need a crown?

You may need a crown for several reasons: fractured or broken teeth, large restorations or fillings, teeth that become brittle after root canal treatment, unsightly stains and/or trauma.

What is a crown?

A crown or cap is a metal thimble or hollow tooth that is bonded with tooth colored porcelain. The crown is permanently cemented over a prepared tooth to restore natural function and esthetics.

How long will the results of cosmetic bleaching last?

With bleaching trays you can "touchup" whenever you wish. So before that reunion, or wedding use your bleaching for a few days to get a bright white smile!

What is the long term affect on my teeth if I choose a cosmetic procedure?

The results vary depending on which treatment you choose. Bleaching needs to be "touched up" about every three months where as veneers or crowns are permanent. Call our office to have Dr. Patel evaluate the best treatment for you.

Will my teeth be sensitive if I bleach them?

Rarely, but if during the bleaching procedure sensitivity is noticed, we can lower the strength of the bleaching gel and this usually disappears.

What are the benefits of a removable partial or complete denture?

A partial or complete denture helps you properly eat and speak - two things most people take for granted until their natural teeth are prematurely lost. They also prevent your face from sagging or sinking in by giving support to your lips, cheeks, and facial muscles. This helps a person feel younger and more confident.

How would I know if I am a candidate for dental implants?

Please answer the questions in the dental implant section. If you answer yes to one or more of the questions, you are a candidate for dental implants.

What are the benefits of Dental Implants?

Dental implants improve your smile, allow you to eat the foods you enjoy, restore better chewing for easy digestion, speak with greater ease, restore your facial structure, enjoy an active lifestyle, and live with confidence!

What if my bone level is not sufficient for implants?

It would not be possible to have implants without adequate bone levels. However, we can easily grow new bone with various bone grafting options. Dr Patel routinely does this procedure with excellent result and would be happy to discuss your individual situation. Call for a consultation.

Can I be asleep for the procedure?

Yes, and we can put you to sleep to do all of your dental work at the same time and in one visit!

Is it important to have your wisdom teeth or third molars removed?

If the third molars or wisdom teeth are not going to erupt or come into the mouth, it is best that they be removed. It is best to have them removed between the ages of 16 and 23. This prevents the development of later problems and possibly a more difficult surgery due to increased bone density and root development.

Should I have an ulcer or growth checked?

Any growth or ulcer, which does not heal itself within 10 days should be checked. It could be pre-cancerous or malignant. Rapid and early diagnosis and treatment offers an excellent prognosis.

If my gums are receding, am I brushing too hard?

A toothbrush does not usually cause receding gums. Gums that have receded are almost always a symptom of a problem with the bite. Sometimes habits such as clenching or grinding your teeth can cause recession. An examination by Dr. Patel can determine why your gums are receding and preventative measures can be recommended.

How does daily mechanical tongue scrapers enhance fresh breath and improve health?

Fresh breath can be achieved through daily use of a tongue scraper and anti-bacterial gel. The mechanics of tongue deplaquing removes decomposed food debris and trapped bacteria from the fissures and crevices of the tongue. This will significantly reduce the production of volatile sulfur compounds which are the main cause of oral malodor.

Will I get the same benefits or results using over the counter remedies or products?

Probably not. It is very important for patients to receive professional instructions when addressing halitosis. As a dental professional we can review the oral health and history of our patients to determine the source of the halitosis, and then to provide the proper treatment and protocol.
